Extended Description

The Conference on Michigan's Future explores the great challenges facing our state, and what we can do to prepare for a very uncertain and challenging future.

  • What are the risks to Michigan's future?
  • How are these risks likely to unfold?
  • How can the risks of relying on non-renewable fuel resources be reduced?
  • How have climate change and other environmental damage impacted Michigan and what further impacts are likely?
  • What can be done to mitigate risks, increase resilience to external crises and create an economic model which leads to sustainability?

The exploration of these questions is critical to understanding the possible paths to a successful future for Michigan.

Four highly regarded economists explain what happened to the economy, how things may unfold in the near future, and solutions to improve and remake the economy.

Twenty energy experts tackle the question of how to reduce dependence on non-renewable fuels and simultaneously increase in-state energy generation from wind, solar and biomass resources.

Themes of resilience, localism and transition are explored by leading thinkers and trainers; along with a serious look at ways to ensure a stable and secure food supply with national and local experts.

Only by understanding the present situation and examining innovative solutions can effective strategies be planned and implemented to create a prosperous Future Michigan.
